I've always been a "let's see if it works" type of person.
Early on after my NFL dreams came to a halt I had a two options. I could continue with my fitness business in Memphis or I could look for a job. Ultimately I found myself back in South Florida working in Healthcare as a administrator. 6 weeks into that role my dad was diagnosed with cancer. This flipped my whole world upside down because if I had stayed in Memphis then I would have been there to help out more initially. I faced 2 options yet again. Do I step back from a promising role to be around more or do I try to navigate as an semi-absent early careerist and worry about if I'm going to be able to keep my job; let alone elevate through the ranks professionally.
I looked myself in the mirror and decided to believe in myself and more importantly believe that God would sustain me as I basically turned down a 5 to 7 year track to being a hospital COO. But I would be able to be around my family to help. I told myself I can live with how it plays out because I'm doing what is right and healthcare isn't going anywhere. Turn out to be a great decision at the time because my mother would also be diagnosed about 2 years later. The increase flexibility allows me to be there for both of them as I desire.
From 2018 until now I've gone on a journey of discovering what business really is inside and outside of corporate environments. IT IS HARD...BUT it is more possible than ever before. Through this death by fire approach, I have had to learn what really works. I've been able to survive because my WHY is bigger than my woes.
